Cheerioh!

Welcome to the first edition of my new newsletter. From now on you’ll get monthly insights into my music, rock’n’roll and news out of the life of a stage-artist without safety net.

What exactly?

  • What motivates me as an artist?
  • Which role plays music/ art/ culture within the realms of economy, sustainability & personal growth?
  • Which relevance has my music for me, you as well as globally & what is your take away from it?

Be part of it!

This newsletter is no one-way street. You are invited to interact. Ask further questions, state your opinion or comment directly here on my blog, where every newsletter appears every 12th of the month in German and English!

Today: Which path leads to the road?

Over a timespan of nearly 20 years I’ve gone many musical paths. Starting as a fresh songwriter – solo with guitar, voice and blues-harp, with original- and cover songs as well as lyrics, looking for bandmembers, joining bands, founding my own band, playing as a duo as well as up to eight bandmembers and back again to pensive, lyrical solo programs, back to duo – & trio ensembles and yet again back to the one-man-band I am today.

Melancholy ballads, rock anthems, deep and twisted songs, simple fun music, sing-alongs, atmospheric worlds of sound or genre-crossing pieces of music – almost every thinkable direction was part of my journey. Still there always has been one common theme, like an ongoing melody, which always sounds: Rock’n’Roll with its painful but honest bluesy roots, its Country influences with the search for home and belonging as well as the progressive urge for more on the way to the big picture.

There were and still are many other musical paths like the one of the accordeon as well as many experiments. All these paths finally led to a road that fits the bandwiths of all these projects. But a bigger road also means giving things a corresponding frame.

It means accepting things, letting them out rather than holding them back. Because the poet of pensive, deep words, the author of a visual world, the musician with his personal touch, the One-man-band with danceable music, the stage rocker, the introverted dreamer as well as the creator of worlds of sound and the fighter for a more sustainable world for all people – all belong to one person: myself. And the best equivalent of that which I could create so far is blu12.

I think that every one should embrace the fullness of his own potentials, his facets and extremes. Only then can we live fully and be a valuable part of this world.

blu12 perspectives

Every month – right here – you will get my very own personal perspective: today it’s the view onto the Pacific ocean in Monterey/ California. The words in the picture are the beginning of my latest song „The Spark“, which – in full length – is part of the latest „Mitossi Radio Show“ (more: see below).

blu12 backstage journal

What am I doing all day? What’s new & what does that mean for you?

For me, no day is the same. Even though I value certain routines like morning sport sessions or a relaxed breakfast, I love variety. I especially like activities with movement and visible results like music sessions, creating setlists for upcoming events, working at stage – and tour equipment or being on the road.

Currently though I spend a lot of time at the computer. Right from the beginning I did everything myself: websites, online-portals, advertisements etc. Especially websites (all created with wordpress) require a lot of time and effort. You have to read a lot, try things out and check for errors constantly. Alone setting up this new newsletter took me at least one full day since this was new for me. The benefits: the whole thing is data privacy compliant, contains automation (subscription, unsubscription, changes etc.), looks good and you can even read the newsletter online for convenience. Often such work processes are underestimated – especially when it comes to the timefactor. It may sound crazy but I’m confronted with new small or bigger issues and challanges (foremost concerning websites) almost daily – things I often have never heard before. In short: you never stop learning.

To put it a little different: not everything in an artists day to day life is as enviable as the backstage buffet.
