Cheerioh!

Welcome to the seventh edition of my newsletter! Without any further big words – let’s dive into my music, Rock’n’Roll and the latest from life as a stage artist without safety net.

All editions of this newsletter and other articles are also available on my blog.

Today: Dreams vs. Reality

Artists are dreamers. You hear this saying quite often in one way or another. I also think there is something to it. However, this statement is often meant differently than it actually is. Some mean that artists are “removed from reality”. Rather I think that artists in particular have ideas and thoughts that many other people only imagine in their dreams, if at all.
The reality is that artists, like everyone else, are self-employed and freelancers or even employees and are confronted with the hard economic facts of everyday life. That often doesn’t make it easier for us artists, but rather more difficult, since our ways of thinking are usually ahead of the current status quo. In practice, as artists, we often have to put in far more work to realize extraordinary ideas within the framework of our largely conservative world.
In addition, in my opinion, independent artists in particular are much closer to reality and actual events. When the Corona Pandemic began in 2020, for example, all live events for stage artists were canceled within a very short time, while many other industries went about their work as usual. Culture is also always a barometer for the state of a society. For example, while in Russia a craftsman may continue to do his work, an artist may have to fear for his life. In Ukraine, musicians, among others, have swapped their instruments for weapons to defend their country. As artists, we are very often very close to the pulse of the times, we are among the first to be affected by repression and sometimes the last to be able to freely pursue our vocation again. After all, the shops are open long before the cultural centers are fully occupied again. And after that, the people in war zones may no longer have any concert halls in which they can come together culturally.
So we should all give artists and their dreams a little more credit. After all, culture is always what brings us back to life after crises. Whether it’s a lonely trumpet among the rubble, a painting that’s still hanging on the wall or a satire that makes us laugh. We may think we live for money, luxuries or nice vacations, but in the end it’s always culture that makes life worth living. Culture is what makes us human. It’s the only thing that separates us as a species from all other life forms on this planet.
So if you want to know what our society, our country, our world is like, ask your trusted artist instead of an oracle.
With this in mind, my thoughts today are with the artists and people in Ukraine, as well as in Russia, so that after this horrible time they still have the opportunity to shape their dreams!

blu12 perspective

Every month there is my very personal point of view at this point: today the view of the pacific at the north californian coast. The quote is an excerpt from my (fairly new) song “Let me free”. These first two lines of the song exude the spirit of optimism that a morning by the sea radiates. Especially in times like these, such inspiration can be an important start to the day.

  • Work in progress: the blu12 logo on the back of the tour bus – I’m already looking forward to it!

blu12 backstage journal

What am I doing all day? What’s new & what does that mean for you?

From conversations with others I often get the feeling that I seem relatively relaxed, which often leads to the conclusion: I have nothing to do. That’s strange. Therefore, here is a brief inventory of the last few months and probably also for the coming months:
I work 7 days a week, sometimes well over 10 hours, sometimes less. Maybe there is a day here and there that I take more or less off. But even on days like the last Christmas holidays, New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day, I worked at least a few hours.

Progress: the “Endless Sunset Stage” is moving towards completion

I don’t intend to keep this workload forever. But especially in the last two years I have increasingly focused on a few goals that I want to achieve in the near future. About a year ago I started to completely change my life in various areas. Such processes take time and a lot of work.
My partner and I have a total of three companies and countless projects, and we also have a very clear idea of where we want to go. We take a lot of unconventional paths because we think that it’s not just about where you arrive, but also how.

With this in mind: to new goals in the hope that we will have enough opportunity to tackle them! We’ll read each other in exactly one month when „6, drugs & rock’n’roll? We rock all 12!“ is back.
