Cheerioh …

In the last few weeks I have had a number of topics and approaches for this newsletter and beyond. Among other things:

“Life as an ongoing journey/ the artist’s path”

“What is rock ‘n’ roll to me? Move on where others drape their front yard gnome!”

“Rock’n’Roll in the mainstream as a parody of itself”

“Absurd rules and obstacles on the path of a musician”

“Education – possibilities and limits of self-study or how education as a luxury good (or its absence) impedes social discourse”

There is so much that could and should be talked about that at times it can be quite difficult to decide. But what seems to have prevented me from completing one of these topics is that I myself am currently faced with enormous decisions.

Decisions are not made

It is said that decisions are not made. Do you want to buy a new car? Then the decision is already in place and all you have to do is find the right model. Do you want to reorient yourself professionally? The decision has apparently already been made, it’s just a matter of taking the necessary steps. And there you get stuck far too often and hold up a process that has actually already been decided.

However, it is often not as easy as such “case studies” suggest, because: 1. life is complex, 2. change is often hindered (by internal and external influences and conditioning) and 3. the jump into cold water is also quite uncomfortable.

1.) Complexity may present challenges, but that is exactly what offers the greatest potential for growth and change.

2.) Working on one’s own attitude, analyzing and rethinking conditioning, and questioning habits and thought patterns is essential to leading a fulfilling life. Viewing the associated change as a positive process with constant new insights can be a great experience in itself.

3.) Most of them don’t even know if and how cold the water actually is because they never jump themselves. My literal jump into the cold water in Sardinia at the end of November was one of the greatest moments of my entire trip – despite the fact that the water was no longer warm enough for summer vibes.

Another insight: The longer you delay the implementation of a decision, the more difficult it becomes to tackle it. Do you want to jump on the moving train? Then with every second you hesitate, the effort necessary will increase. Jumping up there probably means letting go of solid ground before growing roots.

Pirates Ahoi!

So what to do? We must become Buccaneers again – pirates who hijack the ship and cut all the ropes in order to be able to set sail. All too often we are fooled by the notion that years of hard work elsewhere will give us the chance to eventually earn “this” ship. In reality, we are building a completely different life during this time, which ultimately prevents us from actually being able to sail in freedom with this ship.

I’m no exception. Over the years I have accepted so many detours that any attempts to hijack the ship have so far failed – yes, even though I have made my art my vocation. Because there is more to it. And not to give up. Every failure will convince you more and more of the matter and give you the strength to tackle the decisive attempt.

blu12 perspective

Every month there is my very personal point of view at this point: today the view through the groynes somewhere in Normandy. If I look at the big wooden poles as the decisions to be made, the question arises: do I hold on to them or do I go through them to the sea?

News in short:

  • blu12 creates music for Mr. Rockalicious. You can hear how it sounds on my Instagram profile under “Reels”: https://www.instagram.com/blu12music/reels/

  • I’m working on recordings of blu12 songs again – maybe there will be first releases this year.

  • The “Endless Sunset Stage” will be used again starting in May. More independent events are planned across Europe in the future to create a new live format – more on that soon!

With this in mind we’ll read each other in exactly one month when „6, drugs & rock’n’roll? We rock all 12!“ is back.
