Paradise Express – Episode 1

Paradise Express Podcast Show – Episode 1

The first episode of my Paradise Express Podcast Show is finally online! A few days later than planned, not quite as perfect as it should be and yet the start that is important for a new stage.

If you are interested in how the format came about, just have a look at my blog article: “Coming up – Podcast Show”

The high art is to express your own thoughts in the form of music, words or in any other way. I succeed very well in (written) words as well as in music – that’s my profession. But the video format is largely new territory for me. I don’t have great video editing skills, nor am I a videographer, and speaking in front of the camera without a script is new to me.

Nevertheless, I think that this format will offer me even more expressive possibilities in the future, so I accept the challenge.

The making of the first episode

One thing was clear: the first episode of Paradise Express was to take place on our tour in May. For the first episode, I wanted a great setting, but also a bit of quiet. Now, a parking spot by the sea in complete solitude is not an easy thing to find. But on that one day in early May, the opportunity arose spontaneously. We’ve been on the pitch for a while, it was windy and it rained at times. But towards evening not only the parking lot cleared, but also the cloud cover. We were actually about to leave, but I thought to myself: why not now? Time was short as the sun was already quite low. So I got the essentials out of the car and set everything up on the stage. It is possible that everything will be very relaxed in the future. But there hadn’t been a test run up to then and time was short.

A microphone, the guitar and the laptop had to do. The sound check was done by feel and the camera was just positioned.

Now I sat there, the recording was running and I thought about what I actually wanted to say (see video credits). Not that I missed the topic, but I just wasn’t relaxed and 100% focused yet. Meanwhile, an increasingly fresh wind was blowing. By the time it was the “music part” my fingers felt frozen. In the end I had to break off a bit prematurely because the sun had almost disappeared behind the horizon at that moment. So it was a bit of a bumpy start, but the feeling of being on your own stage by the sea and playing during the sunset was absolutely great and more than worth it!

Seize the moment!

This experience shows once again how important it is to recognize the right moments and to use them without hesitation. Every sunset is unique and every mood unique. Just like on stage, it’s about capturing these moments and conjuring something magical out of them – if necessary spontaneously and without preparation.

Here are the lyrics to “Big Man”:

Big Man

Big man in California land
you had my life in your hand
12 strings under your fingers.

Neil Young, a devil and a song
is all we had, now here’s another one, another one.

(Chorus)
Our time started a line,
to the future I remember
every song that we sung, big man.

Old car, the dashboard slided,
every time we hit the road.
You been first and last,
Golden Gate in the fog and the time goes past.

Looking forward till we meet again,
playin’ my guitar for a flight to world’s end,
to world’s end.

The Paradise Express Podcast Show is sure to change in the future. Already while creating the first episode I had so many new ideas that I almost threw the material overboard. But maybe it’s a good thing that the first episode turned out exactly the way it is. So stay tuned to see where the Paradise Express will take me in the future and feel free to come on board:
