Cheerioh!

Welcome to the ninth edition of my newsletter! Without any further big words – let’s dive into my music, Rock’n’Roll and the latest from life as a stage artist without safety net.

All editions of this newsletter and other articles are also available on my blog.

Today: Paradise Express

A month ago I announced it – the musical part of the newsletter. But during the last month the “musical part” has turned into a project of its own: the Paradise Express Podcast Show! More about the creation in my blog article: Paradise Express.

Due to several delays in the tour, various repairs and other small mishaps, it was now high time for the first episode of the podcast. And even before the preparations were really finished, it was there: the perfect moment in the right place. So I dug the most necessary equipment out of the car, set everything up on the stage and started without a sound check. Between “What part came now?” and “Oh, that’s a beautiful sunset!” I created the premiere of Paradise Express (Paradise Express, since that’s the name of the tour van and it gets to the heart of the format well).

With this in mind: have fun watching and listening! If you want to read more about this first episode, just have a look at the related blog article: Paradise Express – Episode I

blu12 perspective

Every month there is my very personal point of view at this point: today the view of the Atlantic in Normandy. The quote is an excerpt from the song “Big Man”. This arc, how it stretches again and again to draw new circles, which close again and again and always accompany you, these connections, which we feel, are part of my new podcast “Paradise Express”.

blu12 backstage journal

What am I doing all day? What’s new & what does that mean for you?

It doesn’t matter whether it’s at the baker I trust, with my family or with customers on the phone: when I say I’m going on a tour – especially with the destination “coast” – everyone wishes me a nice vacation … And I’m not on vacation at all. In the artist business, tour means something like: business trip. Strictly speaking, as a stage artist I almost always work where other people either spend their holidays or their free time: on birthdays, at town festivals, at festivals, on the beach, at places worth seeing… Of course it’s cool too, after all I chose it that way . But it can also be exhausting. While others are having a good, chilled time, I am 100% focused.

To me, the best artists are those who don’t show the stress, effort and hard work in the moment. This is the great art and prerequisite for taking the audience on a journey, be it a mind journey or an exhilarating party.

But on tour I don’t just play gigs. I look for inspiration for my music, for motifs for my photos and for places to take suitable pictures. The photo you can see below is an example of this. Take a look and let it affect you. What do you feel? What emotions or memories does this photo evoke in you?

That evening it was quite windy and correspondingly cold. We had to clamber over dunes, trek across a long stretch of sandy beach, wade through icy seawater to time just the right moment when the beach was empty and the field of view clear for this photo. During the photo, instead of wearing a thick jacket, I stood in the cold wind in my t-shirt until the right photo was taken.

For me it was worth it. Others would rather sit on top of the dunes and enjoy the sunset in thick jackets. Both have their place – also on our tours, but a holiday is only as much a tour as a business trip is relaxation.

With this in mind: we’ll read each other in exactly one month when „6, drugs & rock’n’roll? We rock all 12!“ is back.
